Zaccardi's Almost Magic Cappuccino Calculator
(AKA - How to rationalize buying an espresso machine for your home without any guilt!)

Have you always wanted a nice espresso machine for your home but had a hard time justifying the expense? Or maybe you figured it is just easier to grab a cup of coffee at the local coffee house on your way to work. You may not realize it, but having your own espresso machine, especially a super automatic espresso machine and coffee center can actually save you both time and money!

Save Time:
Super automatic espresso machines and coffee centers are a convenient way to brew coffee house quality drinks at home. They do all of the hard work for you - just fill it with whole bean coffee and press a button - the machine actually grinds, tamps and brews the espresso for you, then discards the used coffee grinds in an internal dump box. You get a hot, freshly brewed espresso with a thick rich layer of crema - all in about a minute. If you want a cappuccino, just add some frothed milk. Want a latte, add some steamed milk. Super automatics make steaming or frothing easy too. Check out different models of super automatic espresso machines to see the features - some include auto frothers that dispense perfectly frothed milk right in your cup. Compare that to driving or walking to a coffee shop, waiting on line to order, paying and then waiting for your beverage to be brewed.

Save Money:
Sounds good but still skeptical about the cost. Believe it or not, but your machine can easily pay for itself in less than a year. To find out how, use our handy calculator below. Here is how it works: enter the price you pay for a pound of your favorite whole bean coffee (such as Zaccardi's Premium Espresso Blend Coffee) and enter the number of shots of espresso in the cappuccino you normally purchase at the coffee shop (for instance, a single usually has one shot of espresso, a double, two, etc.). Not sure? Ask at your coffee shop next time you visit. Answer the remaining questions and press the "Show results" button. Our cappuccino calculator then does some magic (ok it really does some calculations) and tells you how much you can save each year by brewing at home. This of course is an estimate, but we think it is a pretty good one! We figure a typical espresso is made with 7 grams of coffee so given the price you pay for a pound we can calculate the cost of a shot of espresso. We also estimate 5 ounces of milk for a single cappuccino, 10 for a double and so on.

Calculate Savings:

Enter the price you pay for a pound of coffee:

Number of shots of espresso in your cappuccino (enter 1 for a single, 2 for a double, etc.)

Enter the price you pay for a gallon of milk:

Enter the price you pay for this cappuccino at a coffee shop:

Enter the average number of times you purchase this cappuccino per week:

Savings are approximate and do not include incidental costs such as electricity, water, sugar or cleaning supplies - but hey - it should be pretty close and we didn't think you would want to dig out the water and electric bills anyway. Cost of an espresso machine is not included - check out how much you can save brewing at home and decide what machine makes sense for you.
