Product Description You may recognize the Nesco Professional roaster as the Zach and Dani's Home Coffee Roaster. This model was previously distributed under the name of Zach and Dani's by the previous distributor. Now it is being offered directly from the manufacturer and comes under the Nesco name. The Nesco Professional home coffee roaster offers many unique and welcome innovations to the home coffee roasting arena. A quality built design, the Nesco Pro roaster features a patented catalytic exhaust system that eliminates almost all of the smoke and leaves only the fresh aroma of roasted coffee. For those who can’t (or don’t want to) roast outside, in the garage, near a window or under a vent hood, this may be a huge factor in roaster selection. The roaster is also quieter than many of the air driven roasters and is easy to use. The roast times tend to be longer than other home roasters which can be helpful when trying to fine tune your roast. You won’t fly right through first and second crack without time to react. Roast times can be a bit long for some on darker roasts, but are fine for medium and light roasts. A newly added fill line on the roast chamber was added for dark roasts to help alleviate this issue. It is now easier to use fewer beans and reach a dark roast in less time. We have always been a proponent of not burning your beans anyway – since with fresh coffee, you get plenty of flavor from the beans so you don’t need as much “flavor” from the roast. Dark roasting can hide the loss of flavor with stale beans, but dark roasts can also translate into bitter coffee with less body and even less crema on your espresso.
The Nesco Pro roaster features an auger that mixes the beans in the roast chamber, ensuring an even roast. The glass roast chamber makes it easy to see the progress of the beans. The bean movement is not so fast - so the beans are not a blur. A regular and dark roast fill line make filling a snap. Controls are easy to access from the front panel. Roast times range from 20-30 minutes. While these times seem long - they do include a 5 minute cooldown cycle, so actual roast times vary from 15-25 minutes. You can also adjust the time of the roast during the roast. By adding minutes, you could extend the timer past 30 minutes, although we do not recommend it. If you find the roast time is not long enough for you desired darkness, then it is best to use fewer beans (down to the dark roast fill line). Capacity is approximately 4 ounces by weight.
